2013

The birth of Grrl Fest in January 2013 was as chaotic as it was spectacular. After a brief hitch-hiking holiday, Amy Broomstick was inspired by the various “Lady Fest’s” around Borneo and eastern Europe, and gave herself just 3 months to organise Melbourne’s own DIY riot-grrrl inspired festival! The reaction and support for Grrl Fest was immense, attracting over 500 attendees through the doors of the incredibly generous Irene’s Arts Warehouse.
2 storeys, 3 stages, 20 stalls, 30 performances and many hardworking volunteers. All ages and all genders came to celebrate the eclectic talent of the diverse line up.
Grrl Fest wishes to thank all of the people who believed in it from the beginning. And thank the people who helped out, picked up trash, set up stages, print t-shirts, shared the event or brought a friend.
Viva La Grrl Fest.
Amy Broomstick,
Grrl Fest Director
