FAQ

Can anyone come to Grrl Fest? Like can dudes come?

Yes! Male-identified persons are encouraged to participate and volunteer for GF, and are celebrated on stage in supportive roles to women artists. GF is an inclusive, open-minded festival that is proudly intersectional. All genders, races, sexual orientations, cultural backgrounds and abilities are very welcome.

Where/When is Grrl Fest?

GF is an annual, outdoor event held in January / February in the city of Melbourne. An exact location will be announced closer to the date.

Is this event wheelchair accessible?

Yes (not 100% in the past but we aim to improve this). GF strives to make all events accessible. With appropriate facilities available.

What’s a “Safe Space Policy”?

GF strives to create a safe environment for all women to feel comfortable to freely express themselves, without fear of discrimination. GF has a zero-tolerance policy regarding any form of discriminatory behaviour (racism, transmisogyny, ableism etc) on stage or off. Our “Safe Space Policy” is our pledge to do all that we can to ensure that everyone feels welcome and valued at Grrl Fest. We will have volunteer “safety-people” on site at every event.

Is it an All-Ages event? Can I bring my kids?

Yes, GF is open to all ages. However, an adult must accompany persons under the age of 16 years old. In addition we require adult supervision of minors due to performances (especially in the pm) containing “adult themes”.

But isn’t this sexist?

No, it’s not.

Take a look at the latest line-up for every single major Australian Festival and you will see a massive disparity of the male to female ratio of performers. As long as this inequality exists in our mainstream arts industry, Grrl Fest will exist.

What are these networks you speak of?

GF is connected to a variety of integral organisations and groups in Melbourne via sponsorships, partnerships, and mutual plans for World domination. We wish to expand our networks to keep Grrl Fest growing, and to ensure that GF is a welcoming space for a diversity of people.

Grrl Fest is eternally grateful to it’s sponsors and supporters:

A vital aspect of Grrl Fest is the great variety of stalls and information vendors that attend to spread awareness for different causes.

These vary from year to year, but in the past have included:
